Low-iron / Starphire®
Let the tile and materials show.
Low-iron glass reduces the green cast of standard clear glass. Starphire® is a branded low-iron option from Vitro; confirm the specified product with your quote.

Showers, wine rooms and interiors where color clarity matters.
Frosted / acid-etched
Diffuse light and soften the view.
A matte surface creates a translucent appearance. Discuss full-panel frosting or a privacy band; silhouettes may remain visible depending on lighting and distance.
Consider for
Privacy panels, bathrooms and office partitions.
Reeded / fluted
Add a linear texture.
Vertical ribbing adds a decorative pattern and changes the view through the panel. Pattern depth, orientation and privacy vary by product.

Rain / patterned
Bring texture into the design.
Textured surfaces create visual interest and obscure detail. Review a physical sample to judge the pattern and degree of privacy.

Bronze / gray tinted

Tinted glass changes the color and light passing through it. It is not opaque; review the tint with your room lighting and hardware finish.

A painted rear surface gives glass an opaque color. Discuss color matching, edge details and the intended installation location.

THICKNESS GUIDE
The right thickness is part of the design.
Common trade sizes are shown below. Metric sizes are nominal equivalents, not exact conversions. These examples help start a conversation; they are not a sizing or load specification.

For your shower: 3/8 or 1/2 inch?
Both are options for many custom frameless designs. Half-inch glass has a thicker edge and adds weight. The final choice depends on door size, fixed-panel layout, supports and hardware compatibility—not appearance alone.

MORE THAN APPEARANCE
Finish, thickness and construction work together.
Tempered glass
Tempering is a heat treatment, not a color or finish. Cutouts and holes must be planned before tempering. Finished tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled to adjust the fit.
Laminated glass
Laminated glass combines layers with an interlayer. Total thickness and construction depend on the application. Railings need a project-specific glass and support specification; thickness alone does not establish suitability.
Protective treatments
Ask about available shower-glass protective treatments, including Clarvista where available. Confirm care instructions and product availability with your quote. A treatment does not eliminate routine cleaning.
